I got this to install in a Netgate 1541 pfSense+ firewall/router. This model has a PCI slot available, and I'd previously used it to install a Startech 2.5 GbE card to connect to a newer cable modem that supports multi-gigabit speeds. (The Netgate's built-in ethernet ports only connect at 1 and 10 Gbps.). One of the two 2.5 GbE ports in that Startech card died, so I figured I was due for a replacement. My desire was to future-proof with not just 2.5 GbE but also 5 and 10 GbE capabilities.

So I replaced the Startech with the FS card. It was recognized immediately by FreeBSD (the OS pfsense uses) and worked perfectly out of the box. The only small configuration needed was to manually select 2.5 Gbps in pfSense, as it defaulted to a 1 Gbps connection with my Netgear CM3000 modem despite being connected to its 2.5 GbE port. pfSense correctly identifies the full range of speeds that the card is able to connect (1/2.5/5/10 Gbps).

This is my second FS networking product. I had purchased a 24-port PoE-enabled 10 Gbase-T switch a couple years ago and it's been working well. My experience so far with FS networking products is very positve.
