Customized Single-Channel Standard MEMS Variable Optical Attenuator

The MEMS Variable Optical Attenuator is based on the Micro-Electro-Mechanical System technology. These MM series attenuators can be used to achieve the remote control of the power in the networks by a MEMS chip with a movable mirror on the silicon. The mirror attenuates the laser light power by coupling the input beam onto the output fiber. The applied voltage to the device controls the mirror tilt angle, thus the desired attenuation amount.

FS.COM offers standard, mini and micro MEMS VOAs in a fast, low cost miniature package. These best-in-class attenuators are available in either normally-open or normally-closed configurations and with an integrated tap option. They are driven by applying an electrical voltage.

Advanced MEMS Technology to Balance Signal Strengths

A beam from an input fiber bounces off the MEMS mirror and into a output fiber. By slightly tilting the mirror, the input and output fibers are decoupled and the signal is attenuated.

Attenuator Application

The MEMS VOA can be used to achieve equalization in DWDM systems and gain tilt control in EDFAs. It is also applied in test equipments.
