How to Stack Switches Using FS S3800 Switches

How to Stack Switches Using FS S3800 Switches

FS Official 2 Jul, 2018

Switch stacking allows users to manage multiple stackable switches as a single entity to enhance port capacity, which can bring ease of management and high backplane speeds to standalone Ethernet switches. Additionally, stacking switch makes it very convenient and easy to configure multiple switches from a single console, which means that you manage one device rather than each stack member, and with only one IP address. And you can make changes to any of the switch members in the stack without affecting the performance of the whole system. Usually, there is a dedicated uplink ports at the front or a stacking port in the backplane of a stackable Gigabit switch. However, the switching can only be conducted among switches in the same product family of the same vendors, among which the one that controls the operation of the stack called stack master.

This video provides a comprehensive tutorial on switch stacking and configuration with FS 3800 series switches. S3800-24T4S stackable managed switch owns 24 x 10/100/1000BASE-T ports and 4 x 10GbE SFP+ uplink ports. And S3800-24F4S managed stackable switch possesses 20 x 10/100/1000BASE SFP ports, 4 x 1G RJ45/SFP combo ports and 4 x 10G SFP+ uplink ports. Generally, the SFP+ uplink ports are used for stacking. With SFP+ transceivers and DAC cables, four S3800-24F4S switches can be stacked together.

Once the stack is completed, the port information on the 3800 switch can be configured via the Web UI. Stackable managed switch offers simplicity, scalability, and flexibility. To ensure the effective and errorless operation, these two 24 port switches offered by FS are good options worthy of consideration.
