We're using those switches (a total of 4) as L2-core in our two DC-colocations in a MLAG configuration. The switches work flawlessly without any problems. One gets definitely a lot bang for the buck here.

The only thing which could be better is integrations in ansible and other community maintained solutions. They're rather sparse and therefore need efforts to build by yourself.

This model is compatible with our requirements. I need a simple 25GE switch, at least 8 ports that can do simple port-to-port connectivity. I.e. the switch can be able to interconnect ports A and B regardless of the traffic. The cost for the extra SW license was affordable, so I can access the full L2 and L3 functionality. The license was well installed, I don't need to spend extra time to install it.

I usually stick to the larger players for equipment like this (ex cisco, extreme networks, etc) but those traditional vendors tend to have a significant markup on their equipment. FS.com has a variety of switches for options. In general, my experience with FS switches is reliable and has no difficulty configuring, it offers Cisco-like CLI.

Id just like to write up what I found out;
I have Dell/Broadcom 57314 2x25G Mezzanine card, and if you dont turn both FECs on on such NIC, S5850 will not connect it on default FEC policy. So either enable both Base-R and Reed-Solomon on those NICs, or set both NIC and switchport to NONE -FEC.

This switch arrived in a timely manner. It didn't cause any delay in our project. I once wrongly plugged a 1G module into the 25G port and it failed to work. I could only ask for their help. I am glad that it's the right thing to do. They showed me the reason and I followed the advice. Now I can easily manage my network. They helped to solve a string of problems.

The installation was easy. Just powering them on and connecting all the cables, then you are set to go. So far there is literally not a single problem. All in all, it is a well-constructed switch of great value.

I was looking for a 25GbE switch, requiring 12 ports that can be plugged in LC-interfaced 25G modules. I used to work with Cisco switches and was unfamiliar with FS brand switches. The account manager recommended this S5850-24T16B for me and informed me that their S5850 series switches had similar CLI with Cisco. User-friendly indeed, easy and secure management and monitoring.

Its 24 gigabit ports enabled me to connect my SFP switch and servers. And I used four 25G ports to connect my 100G switch for the upgrade. Talked with FS AM, the 25G ports could be decreased to 10Gbps. So with the guy’s help, I used CLI commands to decrease five 25bps ports to 10bps rate, and used SFP+ modules to deliver data to our SFP+ network cards. The people here were knowledgeable and patient, they always got my issues solved. If you are looking to purchase a Gigabit switch and decide to upgrade your system, you can not miss S5850-24T16B.
