the S5800 is preferable to stacking. S5800 supported LACP with the stacked S3900 series to obtain more than 10gbit speed between the S3900s and the S5800s. Due to the almost half price of the S5800, we got all existent Netgear switches replaced with FS within the budget.

If you're looking for an inexpensive and easy to setup and work with a 10g switch, this is it. I've owned or installed and managed at client locations a few other 10G switches such as a Cisco 4948E, the Mikrotik 10G switches and for simplicity, this S5800-8TF12S is about the best. By the way, the web UI of this switch is intuitive and straight forward.

We used DHCP Snooping on the switch to prevent end-users from serving DHCP to our network. I attempted to also add IP Source Guard, but can't seem to find a way to limit only to a VLAN, so it blocks all traffic on the VLANS where snooping was not on. The S5800 series didn't support using command to enable the IP Source Guard only on a specific VLAN at that time. The FS team should consider to optimize it.

I used S5800 in the Datacenter and the S3900 in the Campus offices, the main challenge was getting the best stacking performance between the Office Campus switches and the switches in the Datacenter. I was told the S5800 didn't support stacking, but MLAG between the S5800 is preferable to stacking. S5800 supported LACP with the stacked S3900 series to obtain more than 10gbit speed between the S3900s and the S5800s. Due to the almost half price of the S5800, we got all existent Netgear switches replaced with FS within the budget.

We already had the HPE Aruba switch before we purchased the S5800-8TF12S switch. All our HPE Aruba switches have SFP ports (no SFP+ ports). And we have bought SFP+ HP transceivers from FS. These do not work on our HPE Aruba switches. So we decided to replace the 10G module on the HPE Aruba with a 1G module instead. After talking to the FS technicians, they suggested using the 1G module for the S5800-8TF12S switch as well. Luckily, despite the high compatibility requirements of HP equipment, everything worked fine after adjusting the modules.

After upgrading the software of this switch to version 5.3.11, I was having problems accessing the WEB interface to link the GUI, but I could still log in and manage the switch. I was very anxious, but the FS engineer promptly told me the solution. It turns out that after upgrading to the new version, you need to clear the browser cache cookies in time to solve the problem. Many thanks to FS for providing timely help, which is very useful for me.

The S5800-8TF12S acts as an access switch, the S5810-48FS is used as distribution switch, while the CISCO series switch as main core switch, it has been confirmed that the interoperability of FS family switches and Cisco is no problem, always full throughput on all ports.
