For the 10GBASE-SR and LR transceiver, you don’t need to add a fiber attenuator. But for the 10GBASE-ER and ZR SFP+ transceiver, if the distance between your NIC and the attached SFP+ module is less than 1km, then you need to add a fiber attenuator to avoid the overload.

No, this module cannot be backward compatible to 1G speed. If the SFP+ module supports backward compatibility with 1G rate, it can run in the SFP slot.

These two transceivers primarily differ in terms of transmission distance, with ZR capable of transmitting up to 80km and ZRC capable of transmitting up to 100km. In addition to this distance variance, there are also differences in power budget and cost due to the variation in transmission distance.
