Q:

We have a Dell S5224F Switch and I need to make use of the 100GB ports as the switch is full. Would this cable: FS P/N: Q-4S28PC05 work with a 10GB NIC? FS P/N: X710BM2-F2. Or only with 25GB Nic’s?

by N***y on 01/14/2022

A:

Upon confirmation, your device supports 100G and also supports branching applications. Your device can also be used with a 25G NIC #75603, but not with a 10G NIC. The customized item #49617 is recommended and select "Dual Compatibility Solutions" in the compatibility options. Choose Dell compatibility for the 100G port and Cisco compatibility for the 25G port.

Q:

Can 100G breakout DAC be used for 40G Switch?

by J***s on 10/13/2021

A:

Generally speaking, QSFP28 cable can be used for 40G, and the transmission rate is 40G. Some switches recognize it automatically, others require a command to slow down the port before it can be recognized.

Q:

I need to split QSFP28 into 4x25G SFP28. Should I use 100G to 4X25G DAC or 100G to 4X25G AOC?

by E***d on 10/10/2021

A:

The 100G to 4x25G DAC is recommended for short-distance transmission within 5m, which helps you save the cost, for the transmission distance longer than 5m, you can choose the 100G to 4x25G AOC to ensure stable transmission.

Q:

What does breakout mode of QSFP28 cable mean?

by M***n on 09/02/2021

A:

Breakout mode refers to running a 100G port as 4 separate channels of 25G. When breaking out a single 100G port to 4x 25G , Forward Error Correction (FEC) mode on both ends of the link must be the same to ensure link-up.
