Efficient Electrical Pump to 1310nm Optical Amplification

An electrical pump current is used to excite the electrons in the active region of the SOA. When the optical signal travels through the active region, it causes these electrons to lose energy in the form of photons and get back to the ground state. The stimulated photons have the same wavelength as the optical signal, thus amplifying the optical signal.

High-Performance SOA Module is fully integrated into FMT advanced 1U/2U/4U Managed Chassis, which meets market demands for rack space savings and efficient power consumption. As a part of FMT system where OEO, DWDM EDFA and other traffic units can also be deployed in the same chassis, it remarkably simplifies network planning and operation.

500Gbps DWDM Network Service by SOA Amplifier

SOAs (Semiconductor Optical Amplifier), implemented between the 1310nm multiplexer port and the LR4 transceiver, are amplifying the 1310nm spectrum. It can be used in the10G/100G system, suitable for system design conveniently.

What is the maximum optical bandwidth of this part, and how many single mode colour wave division multiplexed colours can each amplifier amplify? Specifically... Can this amplify optical signals from a QSFP-DD LR8 running at 200 Gbps in NRZ mode? Can this amplify optical signals from a QSFP-DD LR4 running at 200 Gbps in NRZ mode? Thanks for your question. SOA can be used to amplify 100G 1310nm signals, but link distance should no more than transmission distance of the module, so SOA cannot be used to make 100G ER4 work in a 70km distance.By L***o on 09/29/2020

The difference between them is their operating wavelength. The operating wavelength of EDFA is C21-C60, which is suitable for DWDM Mux Demux, while the operating wavelength of SOA is 1310nm that is used for connecting the 1310nm special port of the DWDM Mux Demux to amplify the 1310nm band.By E***a on 05/05/2020

This product is used for 1290-1330 wavelength amplification, and mainly used to amplify 100G 1310nm transceiver. It has no power supply itself, but it needs to be used with a FMT chassis with power supply.By G***o on 02/06/2020

APC is Automatic Power Control, which means the output power is constant, the gain is adjusted automatically; AGC is Automatic Gain Control, which means output power varies with input power, the ratio of output to input is fixed. The greater the input power, the greater the output power until reached the saturated power. After reaching the saturated power, the input power increases and the output power remains at the saturated power.By C***s on 11/02/2018
