Question 1

We are currently using an Edgecore AS6812-32X with 32×40G QSFP+ ports. If the POC is successful, we are considering the FS S5890-32C and would like to confirm whether it supports a similar port structure (48×25G + 8×100G) and the required features, including L2 (STP/VLAN/LACP/MLAG) and L3 (BGP with multipath/BFD/SVI).

The S5890-32C fully supports the required L2 and L3 features, including BGP ECMP, BFD, and MLAG, but it uses a different port architecture with 32×100G QSFP28 ports that can be flexibly broken out into 25G, 40G, or 10G, providing greater scalability and compatibility with existing cabling; if a fixed 48×25G + 8×100G layout is required, the S5580-48Y would be a more direct match.

Question 2

Does the S5890-32C support 40G, and do I need to use AmpCon-Campus to enable automation and programmability?

The S5890-32C features 32x QSFP28 ports that support both 40G and 100G speeds, and it runs on PicOS®, which provides automation and programmability through interfaces such as Ansible and NETCONF, so it does not require AmpCon-Campus for flexible configuration, while AmpCon-Campus is mainly used for centralized management and large-scale operations.

Question 3

The listing page says "The switch runs PicOS® with a perpetual license", so I don't need to purchase an additional license, right? Do I need to buy PicOS® Standard Maintenance & Support (e.g., SKU: 194653)?

By default, PicOS® switches listed on the FS website come with a perpetual PicOS® license and 5 years of PicOS® Standard Maintenance & Support included. You do not need to purchase an additional license or separate Standard Maintenance & Support for the initial 5-year period.

Question 4

The switch runs PicOS®. If I connect this switch to other vendors's switches such as our Catalyst C9500 series, will there be any issues?

As long as both sides support common standard protocols and are configured properly, they can interoperate without issues. Many customers have already deployed our PicOS-based switches in multivendor environments, including Cisco Catalyst series, and they are running stably in production.

Question 5

I'm currently installing the new S5890-32C switch along with a Supermicro AOC-ATG-I2SM NIC using Intel processors. Do you have any information or recommendations regarding QSFP, SFP, and cables?

For FS-compatible 100G modules, we recommend #35182 QSFP-SR4-100G. For Intel-compatible 100G modules, you can use #166442 QSFP-SR4-100G. For the fiber connection, please use 12 Fibers MTP® Jumper. If you need a 100G DAC that is compatible with both FS and Intel, you can choose the QSFP-100G-PCxxx. Question 6

Do you have any management tool that supports automated configuration? Can AmpCon-Campus do this?

AmpCon-Campus includes the built-in PicOS®_config Ansible module, which interacts directly with managed devices for automated tasks like configuring interfaces, managing VLANs, and handling security policies. On top of that, you can write, run, and schedule Ansible playbooks right in AmpCon-Campus to manage switches. This reduces manual effort, prevents errors, and improves efficiency.
