FS BOX V4, Multi-Functional Transceiver Tool Kit, Support FS Transceivers & DAC/AOC Cables, Red

The FS Box V4 is great, we deal with dozens of different clients all using various brands of equipment and constantly have issues with them not having the correct SFP's on site. Now we can simply keep a few on hand and reprogram as needed to the compatible devices. Saved me delays in delivering solutions in the first week of having the device!

I ordered the new V4 tool since it supports all of the latest features and I was excited about connecting it to my phone via bluetooth. So far I am pretty excited for what it allows me to do with all of my transceivers!

The great things:

It allowed me to configure all of the supported transceivers I have and actually fix the part number on some of them which was really cool to see. The DDM information is super helpful for troubleshooting transceivers to see if they are functioning correctly. I was able to see all of that data for every single transceiver I tried - including a number of non-FS ones. I can already tell that this will be an invaluable tool in my networking arsenal.

The not great things:

The only thing I haven't had a great experience with thus far is trying to get the bluetooth to actually pair with my phone - I have so far just used the desktop/browser app with a cable plugged in. The FS app is installed and it sees the tool just fine but every time I try and get it to connect it tries for a bit and then fails. I suspect this will turn out to be either a software issue with the app or a firmware issue on the FS Box but for now I still am unable to use it over a bluetooth connection. Hopefully in time this will be resolved - it doesn't prevent usage of the actual testing, diagnostic, and configuration feature set since you can use it wired but it would sure be convenient to have that working.

I would definitely recommend this tool to anyone that does a lot of work with any sort of optics... it provides a quick and convenient way to inspect transceiver modules as well as configure them where possible.
