How to Configure VLAN via CLI (Command-Line) & Web Interface

How to Configure VLAN via CLI (Command-Line) & Web Interface

FS Official Aug 10, 2018

A virtual LAN (VLAN) is a broadcast domain created by logical grouping of network switches without regard to their physical locations. VLANs can make network management simpler for you and improve the experience for your end users. VLAN configuration can be accessed by two methods. One is command-line interface (CLI). The other is web user interface (Web UI).

As for Command-Line, it is a means to configure and manage networking devices by issuing commands in the form of successive lines of text (command lines) that can be understood by the computer. As for Web Interface, it is known as graphical user interface (GUI) built into each switch and looks like a web browser. In this video, VLAN configuration in Web UI interface is directly demonstrated. However, the Web function should be enable in the CLI interface before configuring VLAN.

Both CLI and Web Interface can be used to configure VLAN. The command-line interface supported by high-end switches was used decades before the graphical user interface (GUI) that better suits the Ethernet switch with low-level configuration. This video makes an illustration of VLAN configuration via the CLI and Web Interface with FS S5850-32S2Q data center leaf switch.
