Overview

Today, the network involves all walks of life, and different industries have different requirements for network deployment. Recently, one of our clients faced the challenge of establishing a network connection between two warehouse buildings. Each building was equipped with IT rooms, workstations, and servers. The primary goal was to ensure seamless communication and data transfer between these critical areas within the warehouse environment.

Challenges

The client planned to use Cat6 cables to connect 36 end devices distributed across nine workstations and to link these workstations to the IT room within the same building. However, the distance from the workstations to the IT room exceeded 100 meters, surpassing the maximum range of Cat6 cables. Additionally, the client aimed to establish high-speed fiber connections between servers in another building and the nine workstations.

Solutions

FS provided an easily deployable network connection solution leveraging the S3900 series switches:

In Building 1, the S3900-48T6S-R switch offered 48 RJ45 ports to connect 36 end devices via Cat6 cables. And its 10G SFP+ port enabled fiber connections to the IT room using OM3/OM4 cable, supporting transmission distances up to several hundred meters.

In Building 2, three S3900-24F4S stackable switches were deployed to provide 72x 1G fiber connections for six servers, and the 10G SFP+ ports allowed fiber connections to the nine workstations in Building 1. If additional ports are needed in the future, other S3900-24F4S switches can be stacked directly, making them easy to configure and maintain.

Results

This solution proved to be an ideal fit for the client, achieving reliable and high-speed network connections between remote buildings. Communication and data transmission between IT rooms, workstations, and servers have been optimized to ensure smooth business operations. Additionally, the S3900 series stackable switches offer flexible port expansion for end devices and easily support future network upgrades.
