Introduction to FS Gigabit SFP Module Product Family
Updated at Dec 25th 20211 min read
SFP is a small, hot-swappable device that connects to a network switch and fiber cables. It is also called "mini-GBIC" and works with Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet. FS.com offers a comprehensive and diverse range of 1G SFP module products. This article gives an overview of FS's 1G SFP module products, helping you make informed purchasing decisions quickly.
FS SFP Optical Modules Quick View
1000BASE-T SFP Copper Module
1G copper transceivers commonly utilize standard Ethernet interfaces, such as RJ-45 (common network cable interface). 1000BASE-T SFP supports link lengths of up to 100 meters (328 feet).
FS 1000BASE-T SFP copper modules offer lower latency compared to certain wireless network connections. This characteristic is particularly crucial for applications that require real-time data transmission and low latency, such as video streaming, online gaming, and voice communications. FS also offers SFP optical modules with LOS (Loss of Signal) function, providing you with additional options for enhancing network reliability and fault detection.

1000BASE SFP Fiber Module
The most common multimode SFPs are the 850nm wavelength for a maximum of 550 meters. If you need to go over a greater distance/ transmit data over longer distances, you can also choose a 1310nm wavelength for a maximum transmission distance of 2km. For single mode SFPs, they can transmit anywhere from 10km to 200km. This makes it suitable for scenarios requiring long-distance transmission such as metropolitan area networks (MAN) or wide area networks (WAN). FS 1G SFP modules use TO coaxial packaging with high reliability and can protect the electronic components in the package from environmental factors and mechanical stress.

CWDM SFP vs DWDM SFP
C/DWDM SFP Modules are utilized in adaptable and scalable data centers and large enterprise deployment. The CWDM SFP module typically functions at 18 CWDM wavelengths ranging from 1270nm to 1610nm, with a transmission distance between 20km and 160km. The DWDM SFP module operates at DWDM wavelengths from CH17-CH61, with the longest transmission distance reaching up to 160km.

1000BASE-CWDM | 1270nm-1610nm | 20km-160km | LC duplex | SMF | Yes | |
1000BASE-DWDM | 1563.86nm-1528.77nm | 40km-160km | LC duplex | SMF | Yes |
BIDI SFP
BiDi transceivers are also known as a kind of WDM optical transmitters. BIDI SFP optical transmitters are utilized in conjunction to allow a two-way 1-gigabit Ethernet link using a single strand of SMF cable and LC connectors up to 10 km/160 km. Bidirectional modules need to be used in –D and –U pairs.
