FS S5800 Series Enterprise Switches Overview
Updated at Nov 8th 20221 min read
FS enterprise switches perform well in multiple scenarios to meet the essential needs of modern enterprises by optimizing networking, improving network reliability, and streamlining operations.
FS S5800 series switches come in seven types, each with different port configurations, but all offer multi-functional designs, flexible operation, and enhanced security for proven performance, removing the familiar headaches of networking solutions.
Benefits
Optimize network performance. Achieve higher capacity of up to 600 Gbps switching capacity at a lower cost. Optimal traffic control enables microsecond latency.
Make it easy to secure campus and enterprise networks. ARP inspection and IP Source Guard features are supported to protect business networks from attacks.
Simplifies professional knowledge training. Real-time configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of devices can be achieved without CLI expertise. The visual interface puts the system status at a glance.
Build a high-speed and future-proof network. Higher bandwidth applications, such as 4K videos, high-definition video conferences, and low-latency gaming, are not a matter of concern.
Hardware and Software Features
FS S5800 series switches are future-proof in both hardware and software to make the network smarter and more reliable, enabling customers to build next-generation campus networks based on the business intent of enterprises.
Hardware Design
FS S5800 series switches are layer 3 switches in a compact 1U form factor that fits most racks needing high density. Each switch in the series has a different port design, such as the S5800-48T4S with 48x 1000BASE-T RJ45 ports and 4x 10G SFP+. The variety and the plentiful number of ports enable them to be used for a wide range of needs.
S5800 series switches are equipped with 1+1 AC/DC hot-swappable power supplies that ensure uninterrupted operation of the switch and improve system availability. Most contain 2+1 smart fans, except S5800-8TF12S and S5800-48MBQ switches which have 3+1 smart fans. Redundant fans enable better heat dissipation, assuring the stability and reliability of the communication system.
Software Functions
FS S5800 series switches have a fairly large feature list that includes a variety of effective software features to improve reliability, protect security, and facilitate network operations and maintenance.
MLAG aggregates links between multiple devices, increasing link reliability to the device level. Supporting MLAG, FS S5800 series switches offer higher reliability and the advantage of individual upgrades for each member device.
In addition to VXLAN, the feature list also includes data center features (PFC, ECN, etc.) that optimize traffic control and enable a lossless and low-latency network. These features are very important in modern RDMA networking.
From a security perspective, various features, such as SSH, ACL, AAA, 802.1X, RADIUS, and TACACS+, are available.
Web, CLI, Telnet, and SSH effectively simplify the operation and management of S5800 series switches, increasing their flexibility.
Diverse Applications to Meet Unique Needs
In a three-layer hierarchical model, different layers may place different demands on the switch. No matter what the existing or future requirements are, there are multiple options available in the FS S5800 series switches.
Access Layer
Most S5800 series switches offer 48× 1000BASE-T RJ45 ports or 48× 1G SFP ports. This means that a single switch can serve more than 48 access points and a large number of users, and allows flexible port usage. And with a variety of features for authentication, MAC security, and IP security, FS S5800 series enterprise switches can manage user access to prevent break-ins and secure the entire system.
Distribution Layer
FS S5800 series enterprise switches can also be used in the distribution layer as they support increased access bandwidth and scale. For example, the S5800-48MBQ supports 25G/40G access-uplink speeds. If you prefer 10G or lower access uplink speeds, other switches are available, such as the S5800-48F4SR, which includes four 10G SFP+ ports.
Core Layer
For core networks needing higher bandwidth, the S5800-48T4S switch can be the choice. It can provide powerful Layer 3 routing solutions, such as high bandwidth for IPTV, video monitoring, and other Triple-Play services. Besides, the built-in QoS and flexible queuing technology enable the switch to deliver high-quality services.
