1310nm Semiconductor Optical Amplifier

Design of SOA optical fibre amplifier for signal amplification with 1310 wavelength band, the transparent transmission protocol, suitable for high speed signal amplification (10Gbps) etc. The stability SOA Pump optical laser and unique AGC (automatic gain control) or APC (automatic power control) circuit are employed in it as the key component to ensure the high stability and reliability of output power.

Efficient Electrical Pump to 1310nm Optical Amplification

An electrical pump current is used to excite the electrons in the active region of the SOA. When the optical signal travels through the active region, it causes these electrons to lose energy in the form of photons and get back to the ground state. The stimulated photons have the same wavelength as the optical signal, thus amplifying the optical signal.

    The difference between them is their operating wavelength. The operating wavelength of EDFA is C21-C60, which is suitable for DWDM Mux Demux, while the operating wavelength of SOA is 1310nm that is used for connecting the 1310nm special port of the DWDM Mux Demux to amplify the 1310nm band.     APC is Automatic Power Control, which means the output power is constant, the gain is adjusted automatically; AGC is Automatic Gain Control, which means output power varies with input power, the ratio of output to input is fixed. The greater the input power, the greater the output power until reached the saturated power.
