Helpful Fiber Loopback Cable

Posted on by FS.COM

Fiber loopback cable and fiber loopback module are called fiber loopbacks, they can provide a simple and effective means of testing the capabilities of optical networking equipments. Fiber optic loopback cable is designed to provide a media of return patch for a fiber optic signal, offers a generous yet manageable fiber loop virtually eliminating bend loss, commonly used for fiber optic testing applications or network restorations.

For Example, Check Fiber Optic Transceiver By Loopback Test

You can check your fiber optic transceiver through a loopback test, which is the easiest way to ensure your fiber optic transceiver is working faultlessly. Loopback test means a hardware or software method, a loopback test, feeds a received signal or data back to the sender. It is utilized as an aid in debugging physical connection problems.

On fiber optic transceiver manufacturing floors and in R&D labs, we usually use a fiber optic loopback module to verify the transceiver whether it is working perfectly as designed. Basically what the loopback module does is directly routing the laser signal from the transmitter port back to the receiver port. Then we can compare the transmitted pattern with the received pattern to make sure they are identical and have no error.

Description Of Loopback Cable

The fiber optic loopback cables and fiber optic loopback adapters(sometimes called fiber loopback connectors) are based on the structure, fiber loopback modules or fiber optic molded loopbacks – just same item different names. The fiber optic molded loopback is also named fiber optic loopback plugs, and it uses an outer enclosure to protect it and from the outside you do not see the optical cables, they are more compact in size and stronger. Unlike the common type fiber loopback cable with visible cable parts, molded fiber loopback plug has its cables and fibers well protected inside the housing, it integrate every part into one single body, this help save space and make it easier to operate as well as offer better protection to the whole products.

There are many types of fiber optic loopbacks based on the connector types on it and the optical fiber types it use. The two most commonly used fiber loopback cables are SC type and LC type, while there are also ST, FC, MTRJ, FDDI, etc. Typically single mode SC type and LC type fiber loopback cables are blue color and typical multimode LC and SC type fiber loopback cables are beige color, this also goes with the practice of fiber optic patch cables. Also divided into single-mode and multimode loopback patch cable, like common OM1 Multimode 62.5/125 loopback, OM2 Multimode 50/125 loopback, OM3 Multimode 50/125 loopback, Single-mode 9/125 Loopback, and 10G Loopback patch cables with different connectors including ST, SC, FC, LC, MU, MTRJ etc. The Mutimode 62.5/125 loopback as a typically multimode loopback patch cords used in Multimode 62.5/125 Fiber Testing Application, while the Single-mode 9/125 loopback used in single-mode 9/125 fiber testing application.

There is a line of loopback modules and loopback cables available at FiberStore. Their fiber loopbacks are precision terminated and feature extremely low loss characteristics for transparent operation in the test environment and in form of cable and module types. 10G OM3, Single-mode and Multimode fiber optic loopback modules are available with FC connectors, LC connectors, MT-RJ connectors, and SC connectors terminated.
