Fiberstore of Xenpak Module is a Multisource Agreement (MSA), that defines a fiber-optic or wired transceiver module which conforms to the 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) standard of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.3 working group. A fiber-optic transceiver module which conforms to the 10 Gigabit Ethernet, 10 G Be, standard as laid down by the (IEEE) 802.3ae. XENPAK is a standard for 10 G Be transceivers essential to allow development of 10 G Be products and thus enable 10 G Be technology adoption and proliferation.
The XENPAK Multicourse Agreement (MSA) group instigated by Agilest Technologies and A gere Systems in March 12, 2001, received input from both transceiver and equipment manufacturers during the definition process.The MSA group received input from both XENPAK-10GB-LR transceiver and equipment manufacturers during the definition process. XENPAK has been replaced by more compact devices providing the same functionality. Recently introduced XENPAKs using the 10GBase-LX4 standard operate using multiple wavelengths on legacy muti-mode fibers at distances of up to 300 meres, eliminating the need to reinstall cable in a building when upgrading certain 1 Gbit/s circuits to 10 G bit/s.
The multisource agreement is based on the proposed IEEE 802.3ae 1O-G bit Ethernet Standard, which specifies uniform form factor, size, optical connector type, and pin out assignments. The MSA addresses all four transceiver types defined in the IEEE standard, including 850-NM serial, standard copper-in 1310-NM serial, 1310-NM-wide wavelength-division multiplexing, and 1550-NM serial, longer-reach telecom types.
